Jim Ellison stood and tapped his glass with a spoon. The group around the dinner table quieted down as the clinking sound rang throughout the room. Satisfied that he had everyone's attention, he sat down the spoon and raised his glass. Glancing at his twenty-one-year old daughter, he couldn't help but smile.

"McKenna," he began. "I don't know what to say. It seems like just yesterday I was holding you in my arms. Now you're a grown woman with a college degree who will be leaving us for grad school." He faltered a little, tears of joy threatening to fall onto his cheeks. He could feel the hand of Megan Connor-Ellison, his wife, resting on top of his. Regaining his composure, he raised his glass higher. "I'm so proud of you."

"Oh, Dad." McKenna set her glass down and stood up. Once she reached her father, she wrapped her arms around him. "I love you, Daddy."

"Okay, okay, remember the deal? No crying. This is supposed to be a party," Blair Sandburg announced as McKenna and Jim parted.

"You're right, Chief. I should be celebrating."

McKenna gave her father a reassuring smile and headed back to her seat. Jim sat down in his own, clinking his glass with Blair's.

Blair took a swig of his drink. "You've raised a good girl there."

"So did you," Jim replied, indicating the young red haired girl sitting next to his daughter.

Blair followed his gaze and laughed. "They do make quite a pair, don't they?"

"They remind me of two other best friends I know," Megan said with a gleam in her eye.

"I guess they do." Jim raised his glass towards Blair. "To friendship."

"To friendship, man."
