Blair awoke and found the bed empty. They had been on an all night stakeout and
worked most of the morning on the resultant bust. Coming home exhausted, they had
gone straight to bed. He looked over the railing and saw Jim standing out on
the balcony, swaying to a beat only he could hear.
When Blair joined Jim, he pulled Blair close and dropped a happy kiss on his
temple. The evening was warm and the sky was startlingly clear.
"What are you listening to?"
"The concert at the marina."
"You can hear the music from here? The marina is a mile away!"
"Can't explain it, Chief. The sound is just so crisp and clean tonight. I'm
not having any trouble filtering the music from the city noise."
Blair snuggled down into a deck chair and kept Jim company, watching for any
sign of a zone-out. He shouldn't have worried. The sentinel was merely enjoying
himself.
When Jim said it was time to go inside, Blair apologized. "I'm sorry that
you weren't able to get tickets. Santana isn't likely to be back in Cascade for
quite a while."
"Doesn't matter. I had the best seat in the house.”
