Name That Tune
"'Ch-ch-ch-changes. Turn and face the strain, ch-ch-CHANges! Don't wanna be a ri-'"
Blair's Bowie cover was summarily halted when Jim's hand clamped over his mouth. Lifting his own hands palms-up, Blair signified surrender, snickering when Jim released him.
"Not into Bowie. That's cool. How about this?" He thought for a moment. "'For there's a change in the weather, there's a change in the sea, So from now on there'll be a change in me'."
"Tony Bennett?" Jim was glaring ferociously now, and Blair had to chew his tongue to keep from laughing out loud.
"Hey, you recognized the song," Blair shrugged.
"Because MY DAD used to listen to it!" Jim shot back, his irritated tone betrayed by the laughter in his eyes.
"Fine, fine. You want something au courant."
Visible mischief crossed that mobile face, and Jim braced himself, not surprised when Blair's next words were rhythmically spoken instead of sung.
"'And still I see no changes, can't a brother get a little peace? It's war on the streets and the war in the Middle East. Instead of war on poverty they got a war on drugs, so the police can bother me,'" Blair rapped, automatically ducking the hand Jim put out to swat the back of his head. He gave a dramatic sigh from a few strategic steps away. "Not a Tupac fan either, huh."
"Sandburg, I swear-"
Grinning, Blair stepped into Jim's arms and proceeded to croon in Jim's ear, unceremoniously moving Jim into a slow dance.
"'If I could reach the stars, I'd pull one down for you
Shine it on my heart, so you could see the truth
That this love I have inside, is everything it seems
But for now I find, it's only in my dreams
That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You will think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could, change the world'."
By the time Blair got to the chorus, Jim was humming along as they happily swayed together.
"Clapton. That's more like it," he murmured as they came to the end. Blair smiled up at him and Jim dropped a not-too-quick kiss on that warm mouth. "Thank you."
"For what?" Blair asked curiously.
"Changing my world, of course."
